Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CACB Exploration Manager, the Project Exploration Geologist will assist in desktop and field-based target evaluations through field-based activities in the, to rank, design and implement fit for purpose exploration programmes, resulting in discovery of economically viable copper deposits that will positively impact Barrick’s growth. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following:
Provide a strong contribution to Barrick’s safety culture and programmes while encouraging and ensuring others do the same.
Communicating Honestly, Transparently, and Acting with Integrity.
Collaborate with the Exploration team to plan, supervise and execute exploration field-activities, including drilling, trenching, mapping, geophysics and geochemistry.
CoTake ownership of projects, drive exploration and geological best practice in our work programmes to deliver robust and high-quality data and collaborate with the team to generate geological targets.
Develop target-scale geological models demonstrating an understanding of lithology, stratigraphy, structure, alteration, and mineralisation.
Support Barrick’s growth strategy by collaboration and contribution to competitor project due diligence reviews, including all technical considerations.
Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects with contribution from our mineral resource management, mining, social and legal departments.
Contribute to weekly, monthly, quality reporting to senior management, in the form of figures and tables, presentations and reports.
Implementation of Standard Operating procedures.
Monitor QA/QC procedures and ensure the integrity of all project datasets.
Be prepared to travel to field-offices and project areas on a rotational basis.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
Ful Grade Twelve School Certificate
Bachelor’s degree in Geology / Geoscience from a recognised institution. Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) will be viewed favourably.
Be a member of professional geoscience organisation and be open to training and professionaldevelopment.
3 – 6 years’ experience in greenfield / brownfield exploration, with exposure to Sediment-hosted copper deposits of the Central African Copperbelt viewed favourably.
Firm understanding and recognition of mineralisation models and geological processes.
Geoscientific (geological, geochemical, geophysical) data integration and interpretive skills are an added advantage.
Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
