The  purpose of Mine Planning Engineer role is to give confidence in the Mining Plan by reviewing and interrogating existing data from the Quarterly process and produce realistic designs that enable plans and schedules to be produced at the required standard for short-term planning and production systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
• Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
• Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.

• Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
• Provide unequivocal Mine Planning data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan to be produced on time.
• Develop the annual Mine Planning cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and LoM business plans.
• Deliver the work of the Mine Planning function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
• Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority.
• Rigorously drive the implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within Mine Planning team.
• Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering

Experience

A minimum 3 years’ of relevant mine planning experience in underground mining environment

Must posess a valid drivers’ licence

Technical Competencies

• Experience in Mine Planning functional Management;
• Demonstrate knowledge in the mining operations value chain
• Understands key underground mining processes and has demonstrated the ability to apply it in optimising performance.
• Knows when to engage Specialists support.
• Must have understanding of good mine planning practices,
• Ability to manage performance based on interpretation of data and can initiate and suggest improvements
• Basic understand of mining planning software
• Produce and update schedules using Enhanced Production Scheduler (EPS).
• Produce the 3 month rolling updates to the medium and long-term planning process,
• Identify, assess and manage risks in order to improve reliability, quality and confidence of operational performance of the Medium-Term Planning process.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, and report writing skills in English
• Demonstrated capacity to interpret data and successfully action sound short-term tactical decisions
• Must understand AGA project management standards and has applied them in a minor project to conceptual level.
