The role holder will be responsible for overseeing the premix blending operations and ensuring the production of high-quality products. S/he will be involved in managing the entire premix blending process, implementing quality control measures, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage and supervise the premix blending operations, including formulation development, ingredient selection, and blending processes.
• Ensure compliance with fortification standards, nutritional specifications, and regulatory requirements related to premix blending.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures and systems to maintain high product quality and safety.
• Monitor and control the premix blending process, conducting regular quality checks, and implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain consistent product quality.
• Oversee the procurement and inventory management of premix ingredients, ensuring an adequate supply of raw materials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, and Government Relations, to ensure seamless operations and product integrity.
• Lead and train a team of blending technicians, providing guidance on blending techniques, safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify compliance with food safety standards, Quality Management System (QMS), and Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, scientific advancements, and regulatory changes related to premix blending and fortification.
• Continuously improve blending processes, equipment, and formulations to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Prepare reports, documentation, and records related to blending operations, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
Competences Requirements
• Extensive experience in premix blending, fortification manufacturing, or a similar role within the food industry.
• Hands-on experience working in the milling sector, food industry, or relevant field, especially in the areas of scale upscale-up, processing and process validation.
• In-depth knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including QMS and HACCP, with a strong understanding of African standards and regulations.
• Familiarity with fortification processes and the principles of micronutrient fortification in food products.
• Proven experience in managing premix blending operations, including formulation, blending processes, and packaging.
• Strong understanding of raw material procurement, inventory management, and supplier relationship management.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address process inefficiencies and quality issues.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to train, develop, and motivate staff.
• Proficiency in relevant software applications and systems related to premix blending and production management.
• Great organizational and project management skills and ability to work with a team as a self-starter.

Work experience and Educational Qualifications
• 5+ years of relevant experience in premix blending, fortification manufacturing, or a related role within the food industry
• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Food Technology, or related fields
• HACCP or ISO 22000 certification would be an advantage
