The Managing Director (MD) of Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) provides overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission to deliver impactful and high-quality media solutions. The MD is responsible for achieving business growth, operational excellence, financial performance, and fostering a culture of innovation and integrity.
· Leadership: day-to-day leadership and management in a fast-moving, increasingly competitive, and politically sensitive independent media house.
· Stakeholder management: represent MCL at various levels including business, political and professional groups across the country.
· Strategy: strong leadership in the implementation of the approved business strategies for MCL
· Performance: Full P&L responsibility for MCL through the effective management of all day-to-day activities
· People: Driving the critically important talent strategy of MCL to ensure the business has a competent team required to deliver desired results.
· Synergies: Taking advantage of the NMG’s skill matrix, competencies, resources, and experience and leverage the same to strengthen MCL competitive advantage in the market
· Growth: Identifying and exploiting through organic business development, joint ventures, and strategic alliances, etc. profitable investment opportunities in the media context of Tanzania.
· Reporting: Ensuring timely issuance of high-quality reports for the business to all stakeholders as required including the Subsidiary and Group Board
· Risk Management: Takes the lead in identifying, assessing, and estimating the risks that may affect MCL business, and develop mitigation strategies.
Candidate’s Profile
A clear understanding of the multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted nature of the media business with demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
A track record of successful implementation of strategic changes that led to improved performance, growth, and innovation within an organization.
Highly skilled in leveraging data to drive business decisions and digital transformation.
Ability to bring cohesion in the senior leadership team, leveraging this to drive effective strategy execution.
Possesses toughness and rigor for culture change.
Able to infuse entrepreneurial energy into the organization, leading by example and inspiring others.
An understanding of consumer needs and innovating around consumer needs.

Possesses maturity; credibility and political sensitivity to work effectively with Government and business organizations in Tanzania as well as other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in a relevant field.
Post graduate qualifications in leadership and management will be added advantage.
Minimum 7 years Working experience at senior level running a profitable business unit
